Malay Drama

Aku tak selalu tengok drama Melayu. Bukan aku look down on drama Melayu, tapi setengah drama Melayu ni memang teruk. Kalau drama ni aku cuma tengok malam Sabtu kat TV3. Semalam drama 'Tak Serupa Tapi Sama' (lebih kurang macam tu ler tajuk nye). Cerita pasal dua family yang somehow related, satu very westernized dan satu lagi very the religious. Walaupun dua family ni are at the extreme end, dia orang ni sama, sama in the sense that they are not good Muslims. Yang very western tu mak bapak very liberal sampai anak boleh bawak boyfriend masuk bilik. Anak perempuan plak ada tatu kat kaki. Satu keluarga kuat minuum. Tapi dia orang very loving and kuat buat charity. Yang religious plak tak pernah buat charity dan family tak loving except for the mom. Yang si bapak suka marah and panggil the mom bodoh all the time. Dia suka tuduh orang macam2, suka buat fitnah. Asyik nak marah orang je. Anak lelaki bongsu selalu kata nak ke masjid tapi sebenor nya pi isap gam ke apa ke?Anak lelaki sulung kuat pi masjid tapi kurang ajar da buta keje sungguh2.

Apa pun drama ni a breath of fresh air sebab it touches on a common phenomenon. Aku ada kawan Cina yang hati nya memang baik. Selalu tolong dan concern pasal orang. Sayang dia bukan Islam dan akan masuk neraka. Yang Islam pun tak tentu masuk syurga, macam aku ni. Orang suka kata aku baik, tapi aku bukan ler baik sangat. Memang aku tak mencuri, menyebar fitnah, menganayia orang, coba tak tinggal sembahyang, tapi aku ni tak lurus.

Viva La Vida

This is the song I currently like very much

Viva La Vida - Coldplay

Coldplay - Viva La Vida

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Chat with Morons

Few days back I chatted briefly for the first time with this particular moron. This was how part of the chat went:

Moron : Dah kahwin?

Me : Blom? U?

Moron : Blom gak

Moron : Umur brapa?

Me : 45

Moron : Itu bukan blom kawen, itu dah terlajak

What makes me called him a moron is because you don't say such thing to a person you chat for the first time. The reason why I say 'blom' is though I have no intention at all in getting married, but who knows one day for some reason I just might.
Few years back I chatted also with another moron. This was how part of the chat went:
Me : Tinggi brapa?
Moron : 5' 8", u plak?
Me : 5' 5"
Moron : Ohh, you kat bahu I jer.
Me : Oh ok, so kepala u 3 inci tinggi jer ler
Moron : (senyap)

Bali

From Monday to Thursday BB and I took a trip to Bali, Indonesia. It was mine and BB's 1st trip to Bali and Indonesia. The trip was a really good and a deserving one for the both of us. Some people especially the Whites go there for the beach. We went mainly for the places in Bali and the experience. We went to several places and they were beautiful. I have now more respect for the Indonesians. Perhaps from looking at the Indon workers here, the news, documentaries etc and of course my own ignorance my perception of the Indonesians was more negative than positive. Denpasar was not what I had imagined before. I thought it was slightly backwards but it was not at all. The city is big with many shops, beautiful houses and a lot more modern, hip and happening than some cities here in Malaysia like Kuala Terengganu or Kota Bahru (Sorry NK hehehe). The people especially the men are smoking hot. Anyways we know that Indonesians are artistically more advance and better than Malaysians. In fine arts, craftsmanship, music, films, interior and exterior design, fashion they rise above us. In corruption and in crime hmmm I'm not sure.

Surat Khabar Lama

A few minutes ago I sold a short stack of old newspaper to a surat khabar lama man. There are a few surat khabar lama men in my area. Though the voice yelling 'paper lama and old newspaper' through the speaker sounds like a Chinese the surat khabar lama man can actually be an Indian. Today's paper lama man told me that the stack I'm selling would fetch RM5 a few weeks back, but today it costs only RM3. He told me that its the effect of the global economic crises, of course. According to him orders for old papers by box manufacturing companies are declining because many other companies are closing down or are also facing diminishing orders. What surprised me a bit was that the prices of iron and steel have also gone down. What use to be like RM5 per kilo (I think) has gone down to only 30 sen. He then went on to say that USA is to be blamed. The Americans have set up a plan to ensure that the Beijing Olympics is a failure as they know that China is economically getting strong, and so is India. Thus USA has made efforts to bring down China's economy including other Asian countries. Nevertheless, their plans backfired and now they are in a financial slump. Though this man deals with old newspapers he knows that it is pertinent for him to know to state of the world's economy because it will affect his. I'm impressed.

Vacation

Next week I'll be going on a trip with BB to an island people say is like heaven...well may be more of a paradise (anyways what's the difference). Thank you Air Asia and the Internet for making booking for holidays easy. Been wanting to go there a long time ever since I started working and that would be 20 years. Hope it would be a fabulous trip

Post

My menstrual cycle is back after 4 years. I've been given back my post which I left 4 years ago. Thus, I'll be grumpy again, that's how one of my colleagues describes me. Nevertheless, I'll try not to be grumpy but will just fake my smile even when dealing with cognitively and emotionally challenged young adults. The thing that will probably help me fake my smile is that now I will be paid.

Today

Today for the first time I went to Pavillion. Two of my best friends invited me to have lunch there since they know that I have never set foot in Pavillion. I am the type who would wait a little longer, or sometimes much longer, to set foot in new places like new departmental stores or new restaurants. Basically I do not like crowd and mostly the kiasu types, especially those with certain profiles (Yes, I admit I'm a racist sometimes). Another reason is that I do not like to drive to KL what more to places such as Bukit Bintang which is extremely crowded. The place is of course huge since it is built over a few landmarks that I would pass by on my way to school back in the 70s, like the BBGS, the old Eden, the swimming pool and probably St. Mary's too. There a lot of places to eat and a lot of dishes to try. We went to Tony Roma or Romas and had the ribs. It was delicious. These two friends of mine are the kind that you would dearly miss if they are not around and would also miss you when you're gone.

I've read in other people's blogs not too long ago that the line at the JCo Donut shop would be long the moment the place is opened. Just now at 12.30 I saw no line at all at the shop. Probably the hype over the donuts is very slowly diminishing. For me personally, I could not take the donuts from either Big Apple or JCo anymore. My 'tekak' becomes 'loya' when I think of the donuts. They are just too sweet especially those from JCo. Anyway I'm more of a 'cok keria' person than a donut person.

Back to not eager to go to newly opened places, I have not set foot in Berjaya Time Square and have never been up the KL Tower. My friends told me that I have not missed anything by not going to Time Square. I think so too.

On an unrelated note, yesterday I bought this machine people use to wash cars that shoots the water really fast. I know there's a name for such device but I'm too lazy to think. I bought it mainly not to wash my cars but to wash off the mold or mildew in my drain and on other things in front of moi house. I like to have things that make my life easy and I do not like to borrow them. That's why I have more than 1 car since I do not like to borrow anyone's car when one of my cars go for its scheduled service. Hardware store is a heaven for me. I wish I had all the machines or gadgets in the hardware store even though I might not know how to use them.

Entry

Dah lama tak tulis apa2 dalam blog ni. Kehidupan harian macam biasa. Pegi keje, balik keje, makan- minum, kencing-berak, tengok tv-surf internet, masuk kreta-keluar kreta, korek telinga-korek hidung, potong rambut-gunting bulu hidung, cukur janggut-trim jembut dll

Datuk

Shah Rukh Khan has been awarded the 'Datukship'. I wonder why. Maybe because some scenes in his many movies were shot in Malaysia...huh! Is that the reason? Maybe not. Whatever the reason it's probably beyond my comprehension.
Well, they awarded the datukship to that man who swam across some channel, and to the man who sailed solo across some seas, to the man who won a silver medal in the olympics and to a lot of other people you don't even know.
I think I must start doing something so that I'll get it too.

Slow Hand - Pointer Sisters

Slow Hand - Pointer Sisters

As the midnight moon, was drifting through
The lazy sway of the trees
I saw the look in your eyes, lookin' into mine
Seeing what you wanted to see
Darlin' don't say a word, cause I already heard
What your body's sayin' to mine
I'm tired of fast moves
I've got a slow groove...
On my mind

I want a man with a slow hand
I want a lover with an easy touch
I want somebody who will spend some time
Not come and go in a heated rush
I want somebody who will understand
When it comes to love, I want a slow hand

On shadowed ground, with no one around
And a blanket of stars in our eyes
We are drifting free, like two lost leaves
On the crazy wind of the night
Darlin', don't say a word, 'cause I already heard
What your body's sayin' to mine
If I want it all night
You say it's alright
We got the time

'Cause I got a man with a slow hand
I got a lover with an easy touch
I found somebody who will spend some time
Not come and go in a heated rush
I found somebody who will understand
When it comes to love, I want a slow hand

If I want it all night
Please say it's alright
It's not a fast move
But a slow groove
On my mind

'Cause I got a man with a slow hand
I got a lover with an easy touch
I found somebody who will spend some time
Not come and go in a heated rush
I found somebody who will understand
When it comes to love, I want a slow hand
"Slow Hand"
by the Pointer Sisters.

Craving

I'm at that phase again...I want another car...not another car...I want 3 cars. I want a Toyota Rush, a Mini Cooper and a Mazda CX-9 bley? Of course tak bley. Nak beli dengan apa? Jual pungkoq? Jual pun tak laku.

Jalan Sudin

Raya yesterday was just ok. I would rate it as just 4/10. Went to one house, a family friend. Don't really like going to people's house when 95% of the people there you don't know and don't really care to know.
I wish I was celebrating raya in Jalan Sudin Singapore where I everyone in the house knows me. Just like the theme song to the sitcom "Cheers"..."Sometimes you wanna be where everybody knows your name...and they're always glad you came". In fact in Jalan Sudin almost everyone on the street knew who I was because that was where I was raised from the age of 52 days to 5 years old by my grandma, aunties and cousins. I wish I just could turn back time. Sigh

Ramadhan

Minggu ni minggu last kerja sebelum raya. Apa pun aku dah penat. Tak sabar nak cuti, tapi bukan nak beraya. Frankly I'm not looking forward to celebrate Raya. Pasai apa? Sebab raya dgn family aku ni boring sikit. Adik-beradik tak ramai, sedara mara pun tak datang. Aku tahu sebab apa depa tak mau mai. Kalau boleh aku nak turn back time and raya kat kampung aku yang dah tak de dah. Tok aku yg aku sayang pun dah lama pergi. Sepupu2 pun semua dah ada keluarga sendiri. Nadi keluarga dah tak de. Aku lagi suka beraya kat perantaun, lagi meriah sebab kami buat kan ia meriah.

Semalam aku pegi pasar ramadan kat stadium. First time pegi tahun ni. Aku nampak satu gerai jual roti john tu panjang. So aku singgah tengok pasai apa q panjang. Rupanya roti john kat sini lain sikit. Dia tak campur daging2 dlm telur, instead dia tabur atas roti yang dah di pan fried dgn telur. Satu lagi dia tambah sauce BBQ agak nya.

Tahun ni aku malas bebeno nak pi pasar ramadan. In fact tahun ni aku malas dan tak brapa suka nak pi beli makanan untuk berbuka. Pasai apa? Pasai aku penat dan malas nak decide apa nak beli. Malas bebeno.

Ramadan tahun ni juga aku cepat penat. Lagi2 lepas demam ari tu. Penatnya ada lagi. Aku dah miss 7 mlm terawikh. Walaupun tiap hari aku malas nak pegi aku paksa juga pegi. Nasib baik aku boleh paksa diri aku. Semalam tgh2 sembahyang isyak kat masjid ada budak dok menangis nak kat bapak dia. Kadang aku rasa nak lempang je mak atau bapak yg suka bawak anak2 pegi terawikh especially bila budak2 melalak atau menangis. Semalam budak tu plak muntah atas carpet. Bukan dia lapnya tapi dia belah. Lagilah aku rasa nak tumbuk je mak bapak budak tu, bukan budak tu...dia tak salah.

Semalam masa terawikh aku tak brapa concentrate. Pasai apa? Ada sorang mcm Arab ni sembahyang kat depan aku. Sungguh cantik Arab ni. Aku dok tunggu nak tengok butt crack dia, bley? Teruk betul aku ni. Sekarang ni aku gian nak isap ice-cream. Terukkkkk betul aku ni.

Apa pun aku dah jumpa tajuk lagu lama ni.

Ramadhan

Last Saturday I had fever immediately after sahur. My body temperature was high and the bottom half of my body ached tremendously. The fever continued for the next 2 days. I missed 4 nights of terawikh. Hmm....

Puasa

It's already the 5th day of Ramadhan. Yet, I'm already tired of trying to figure out what to have for 'berbuka'...hmm...maybe I need to employ a cook who will decide for me. Anyways, Alhamdullilah I'm healthy and still can perform the 23 tarawikh and witir rakaats but with a bit of soreness on my left leg.

Ramadhan

Every year during the fasting I would always wonder whether I'll be healthy enough or even alive to face next year's Ramadhan. Alhamdullilah I'm healthy and still alive to experience the coming fasting month...healthy enough to perform the tarawikh and hopefully the full 23 rakaat (including witir). Last year I also wondered whether I would have completed my doctoral program by this year's Ramadhan. Alhamdulillah I'm done. Thank you God.

Sushi

VV and I went to Sakei Sushi of course to have sushi and other Japaneses dishes. That was the 1st time we ate there. The place to my standard would be considered as ultra modern or very techno savvy since the ordering of food is done via the computer screen just next to the table. This to me is really good since we can take time deciding on what to order.
In comparison to Sushi King, the sushi here does not taste as good as the ones at Sushi King, though in Sakei they look better. The prices are a lot more expensive than Sushi King and the portions are small. The teriyaki grilled squid I ordered came with two medium sized squids at the price of RM 13.90. The beef teriyaki with rice which came in a medium sized bowl was priced at RM17.90. I was slightly surprised when I saw the size of the bowl. Perhaps customers had to pay for the technology and the ambiance of the place. There were no refills for the Japanese tea except there was an outlet next to the table for free flow of hot water. In Sushi King they would refill our cups without even asking. In addition, the waiters at King's are a lot more friendlier and welcoming than Sakae's.
Would I be going there again. Yes if someone wants to treat me.

Olympics

I'm currently watching the Final Men 3m Springboard Diving event on live Astro. One of the finalists is Alexandre Despatie. The first time I saw Alex Despatie doing his thing was at the Commonwealth Games 98 in Kuala Lumpur (or as the Australian commentators would say it, Kuala Lumpah) live at the aquatic centre in Bukit Jalil. He was only 13 at that time and he won a gold medal in one of the events. Back then I knew he was going to be one of the great divers of current time and sure enough he is. He has participated in three Olympics and he's a favourite to win a medal in Beijing.

Back in 1998 he was a cutie, now he is a hottie!

Yeay, he won the silver medal

Olympics

Am on a 1 week break. Spent time today watching the Beijing Olympics, Weightlifting. Men of shot put, hammer-throw and weightlifting are absolutely sexy and gorgeous. Can't say the same of the female counterparts.

Olympics

Yay! Beijing Olympic's opening ceremony is tomorrow and I can't wait. I love watching the Olympic's opening ceremony and I predict Beijing will put on a fantastic show rich with cultural elements. My first time watching the Olympic opening ceremony live (on TV of course) was in 1984 when it was held LA. Since it was in LA (where Hollywood is) the ceremony was fantabulous.

I didn't get to see the Seoul Olympic opening live in 1988 since my boss decided to have a meeting on that day. I only got to see the repeat, nevertheless, to date that was the most fantastic opening I have ever seen. Simply beautiful.

I got to see the Barcelona's opening in 1992 and I remember I had to wake up in the middle of the night to watch it live. It was rich with theatrical elements. Most memorable part of the ceremony was the lighthing of the olympic flame when it was lighted by an archerer from a distance.

In 1996, it was held in Atlanta. It was a good show but I actually don't remember anything about it.

The Sydney 2000 Olympic opening was also good but there were parts which were boring especially the aborigine's dance.

I watch the Athen's opening in 2004 but like the Atlanta's show I don't remember anything.

Why Don't They Plan Their Lane

Since going back to work I naturally have been doing a lot more driving. When you drive more often you meet cognitively challenged people on the road moe often. One of the things people seem not to do when driving is to plan their lanes especially at a roundabout. If you exiting just into the next exit of a roundabout then you should be on the left lane. But NOOOO instead they are on the right lane.
Sometimes a special lane is created for cars to turn either to the right or the left. When such lane is created you're supposed to enter the lane from the beginning. But NOOOO some drivers, especially women drivers, would only drive onto the special turning lane at the very end.
If it was legal to hurt stupid drivers, I wouldn't mind smashing this drivers' heads, especially womens'....I don't mind at all. Road bully I am? Yeah...in mind only.

Slipped

Hari ni aku jatuh depan bilik air bawah sebab lantai licin. Bukan basah pun lantai cuma licin.
Padan muka aku pun gelak kat Miss USA/Universe 07 & 08 jatuh...sekarang aku plak yang jatuh. Kalau depa mengalami sakit macam aku alami memang depa pandai berlakon tahan sakit.

Sodom II

The Anwar - Saiful sodomy case is getting dirtier and dirtier, probably as dirty as the traces of shit on the dick that has just penetrated an ass.
In conclusion, one of them is lying or a whole bunch of them are lying. If Saiful is the one who is lying, well, does he not know the consequences of his lying now and in the hereafter. The same goes to Anwar too.

Today at Work & Old Friends

After fours weeks of tolerating people not paying attention to what I am saying, today I blew my top...well..not exactly, but I was definitely furious. One of the worse places to give a talk/lecture is in the computer lab. People whether young or old could not resist reading their emails, visiting their blogs or social networking sites when there's a computer in front of them. I have planned earlier on before coming back to work to remain calm and be happy all the time. But that didn't work out as planned. I hope I won't be furious again. I feel bad about being angry today.

On a related note the Internet is really a good place to locate your old and lost friends. About a month ago I was able to come in contact with a good friend whom I have not seen, heard nor spoken to for 27 years. Today I received the contact number of a dear friend whom my circle of 80s friend have not come in contact with for almost 20 years. Since she loved Transformers so much I called her Rosmatron. I used to sing to her the Transformers' song which went like this:

Rosmatron
Mak Aji in disguise

She didn't me singing the song at all ( I hope). She was also called 'Mak Aji' since she was one of the rare few who wore tudung during our US 1980s days.

Jalan-Jalan

Sejak dah start balik kerja ini aku rasa macam nak bercuti pegi jalan-jalan. Baru sebulan kerja dah nak pi jalan-jalan, bley? Bley, apasal tak bley plak.
Tadi masa duduk dengan colleague2 aku kami sembang2 pasal jalan2. Sorang tu kata dia baru balik dari pi melawat Cambodia. Dia pegi tengok Angkor Wat. Katanya satu hari tak cukup nak tengok Angkor Wat. Aku pun terus rasa nak pi sana. Tapi sebelum pi sana aku nak pi Bali dulu. Kawan aku yang pegi sana baru2 ni kata seronok ke Bali. Maka aku pun tengok ler harga ticket pi Bali bulan 12 ni kat website Air Asia...mahal sikit. Rupanya peak season sebab Mat2 Salleh ni semua nak pi sana celebrate New Year. Hmmm...takut juga nak pi sana Disember ni, takut meletop.
Last sekali aku pi berjalan obersi ialah pada bulan Mei-Jun tahun lepas. Aku pegi tempat orang suka croissant and makan pasta.

Old Friend

I wrote about my friend whom I have not met for 27 years from the PC at the office. But because of the bloody unstable connection I was not able to save it. Anyways, I met an old friend who was my classmate in form 1 up until form 5. He's now working in China and he's one of the nicest people I know. Really an angel. He is taller than me now but we were both the same height in school, we always in front of the line because we were the smallest and the shortest...and probably the cutest...NOT

Miss Universe

What are the odds eh. Two Miss USAs in the Miss Universe competition felt down at the start of the evening gown section and they were both blacks. I call it the curse of the black Miss USA. Muahahaha...Padan Muka

On a related note, Miss Malaysia as usual is one of the ugliest. We keep sending girls who are just beautiful but distinctively beautiful. We should be sending someone like Miss Malaysia World 2007, Deborah Priya Henry. She made it to the top 10.

Wow

Hampir Habis

My 4-year race to be professionally developed is almost reaching the finish line. The few centimeters more are merely format and presentation. All I'm waiting for is just an official letter saying that I'm done. However, I missed the next medal giving ceremony and I have to wait slightly more than a year for the next one. Tak pe lah...what is more important is that I'm reaching the end. Frankly, I don't feel any smarter. Penat ada lah

THE TERMITES AND THE CIVET CATS ARE BACK

The damn termites are back and are attacking my door frames and parquet floor. About 9 years ago they attacked my kitchen. I had them treated via the drilling process. It was messy and the guarantee was only for 3 years. Yesterday I had it treated using the Sentricon thing.

A few things I learn about termites and how they are killed:

  • Never ever spray the termites with common pesticides like Morten, Bygone and such. Spraying will only anger them and they retaliate by going to other spots and eat your wood even more.
  • 70% of the chemical used in the drilling technique will kill the termites and the other 30%will form lile a layer to prevent them from entering your house via electrical wiring passage and holes in your wall.

  • By using the sentricon system the termites will eat the thing in the box , bring it back to the colony and every termites there will die, even the queen. How? I'm not sure. Perhaps the termites will eat the infected termites. However, it'll takes longer to treat them this way than by drilling.

  • If you see trails of soils or dirt on your walls or near your built-in cabinets it means that termites are there. Don't try to clean them or chase the termites away. You need the termites to be visible so that treatment can be administered easily

  • You can actually hear the termites eating up your woods when you place your ears close

I think Najib should use the sentricon system to get rid of the illegal immigrants in Sabah. My first trip to Sabah was years ago. When I was walking around the stores in KK I did see a lot of people loafing around during the day and doing nothing. So I asked one of the taxi drivers who are these people and why are they hanging around and doing nothing. The driver told me that they were illegal immigrants mostly Filipinos. I laud the government's effort their effort to get rid of them and I was certain some NGOs will make some noise regarding this. One sure did. I wish they would just shut up and let the government

The civet cats are back too and pooping on my new skylite roof. Damn.

Sad News

On the 3rd day of the 2 1/2 - day course my boss announced that a colleague of ours has been confirmed by the doctors to be suffering from stage 4 lymphoma. Now he needs to go for several sessions of chemotherapy. However, the government hospital did not accept his guarantee letter which is from another government agency and I'm not sure why. He needs to fork out RM5k either for 10 therapies or RM5k for each session. I pressumed the therapy is just too expensive and that since he is at stage 4 the hospital is probably trying to say something. It's just a wild baseless guess.
On another note, I haven't gotten into the working mode yet. Liat betul aku ni. Probably I'm worried about my Perodua Viva Las Vegas Voce. Lately I've been wishing that I was the US, UK, France or Australia. I would love to be able to stay at one of those countries for at least a year. Maybe I will start looking for opportunities to be seconded to one of those countries. The desire gets stronger everytime I see pictures of Paris.
On another note also, I hate using Microsoft Vista. I thought it's supposed to be better than XP but it is not. Banyak menyusahkan aje.

Perasaan Hasad Dengki

My permanent head (and hair, yup I have more grey hair now) damage journey is coming to an end. Monday 30th of June, between 9.30 am and God knows what time, will be the deciding period whether my permanent head damage journey will end up with a title being awarded to me (though I cannot take the title with me to my grave). That's is the time when I will be undergoing my Perodua Viva Las Vegas Voce. I pray to Allah that it will be smooth sailing session for me. Amin

Today I attended a grooming course organized by my work place. It's one of the topics included for this 3 1/2 - day course. The speaker was from Kit Casa. She's the owner. Let me jot down the things that I learned today. If I don't do this I would never remember anything tommorrow.

Man's work attire

  • The belt and the shoes much match. Black belt goes with black shoes
  • Your tie must not go beyond the buckle of your belt
  • The more holes for the shoelace means the more you're concerned about how you look
  • Your tie must not macth you shirt. At best the two should contrast each other
  • The best is to buy silk ties
  • You must not fold the sleeves if you're wearing long sleeves
  • Do not put anything in your shirt's pocket, it's not meant to be a usable pocket
  • Do not put everything in your pants pockets until huge bulges appear
  • The end of your pants should only have one fold. Meaning it must not be too long that you can see severals folds
  • Never wear a tie pin

Woman's work attire:

  • Limit yourself to only five accessories : ring, necklace, earrings, bangles and watch.
  • Your whole attire must not have too many colours, 4 should be the max
  • Handbag for work should be those which are structured, those than can stand on its own. Not those that flops down when you put them on the table
  • The best is to wear leather shoes, not to high 1.5 - 2.

Your posture must be straight. There should be a straight line running from your ear, through your BCG scar and down .

That's all I could remember.

However, I was not impressed with how the speaker was dressed. She wore a suit which looked like it was made from a cheap, flimsy, nylon material. It doesn't look tailored made because it didn't fit her well, instead it look like something you buy from Mydin. Her hair looked like she was about to do housework.

Pinjam

Within the past two weeks I think about three people have asked me if they could borrow my SLK (small little kancil). Two of them wanted to rent it for about 5 months and one till the end of the month. Though I have 4 vehicles I had to say no to them. I don't mind letting people use it for 3-4 days (max) but 5 months!!!.....hmmm.

I love my Kancil very much. I use it for quick visits to the shops, buy groceries, pay bills, to go the mosque for Friday prayer and to places where I know parking would be a problem. It is a good car with no complicated frills. I bought it in 2002 and currently the mileage is about 45000 km. To date it has not given me a single problem. BB does not like to be in the Kancil because it's too small (too small for BB's wide bottom) so I bought another car for BB to use. Some of my friends don't understand why I can't loan my car to them and why I need two cars. I just plain need them. They each serve different purposes. I would get really restless when someone borrows my Kancil because I want my cars to be with me all the time. Hey, I'm an Aries. They say people associated with the sign want everything in 2s.

This is not my scooter

My other vehicle is a Suzuki V125 scooter. I haven't used it for about a year. No one wants to borrow that one.

Father's Day

Father's Day was a few days ago. I did not wish my father 'happy father's day' as he is no longer alive. He went to meet his creator almost three years ago.
I was not closed to my father. To describe how not closed I was to my father let me compare my reception when my father came back from work when I was a kid to that of my old neighbour's children. When my neighbour came home on his 'kapcai', his small children (he had about 10 children) would run to him screaming "Ayah balik, ayah balik' when he was about 70 meters away from his house. He would slow down his bike and stop to pick up the smallest child onto his bike and continued riding. His other children would hold on to the bike running slowly until it reached the house. My neighbour would have a huge, contented, and a happy smile on his face. This happened everyday. For me I did not want my father to come back.
My father never laid his hands on me (except maybe once), never not fed us, but he was a fierce man.
Fathers out there, don't let your kids hate you.

ALLAh is Great

Yesterday I had a near disaster at my house. My 2nd room on the top floor nearly was flooded because it rained really heavily yesterday for about 30 minutes. The water came in from my balcony as the drain hole was covered by leaves, so it slowed the flow of the water into the hole. Luckily there is an attached toilet and all I had to do was 'wipe' the water using that rubber 'wiping' thingy into the bathroom.
What I consider to be even more lucky was that I happened to go home to get my clothes of the drying rack when this happened. I originally wanted to go home earlier before it began to rain. Instead I stayed in my office after Friday prayer to do some work and then it started to rain there. I immediately jump into my car thinking that it had not rained yet at my place. But actually it had started to rain there earlier (the time to get to my house from my office is just 10 minutes). On the way I thought maybe I should turn back to the office as I thought my clothes were already wet so why bother. However, I just drove on to my house.
Despite me being a 'not so good Muslim' aka a 'sinner' Allah made me continue driving on to my house. If I had turned back the water would have definitely gone into the other rooms and eventually down the stairs and into the living room. The aftermath would be worse and the cleaning up would just be tremendous. All I could do was just laugh after the incident.

1st Day at Work

Today is my first day at work after a 4-year leave. The 4-year leave was a work related leave, meaning I was doing something which was still work. However, I'm now at home blogging, muahahaha...hampeh

American Chopper

Two Installments

The government announced recently that civil servants' salary will be paid in two installments, the 1st in the middle of the month and the other at the end of the month. This has been the practice in the US for I don't know how long, and perhaps in other countries too. When I was working there part-time my salary was paid that way. So when I heard Pak Lah made the announcement I was quite happy. It gives me some sense of security knowing that money will be coming into my account every two weeks. Then I won't have to worry about how I will survive financially in the next 3 weeks after 2/3 of the salary is gone within the first week of the month.

Nevertheless, I think it will create problems too. One of it is that if you have a lot of payments to make such as loans and other bills probably the first half of the salary will not be sufficient to pay all of them. Thus, you have to divide your bills into two groups, meaning also that you need to make a trip to the bank or other bill paying places twice. This could also mean for some people that you may be charged interest or have a bad credit history if you're late in your payments, especially if the due dates are at the same time. Perhaps the utilitiy companies and banks need to reconsider the due dates they set.

Another problem I see has to do with self-discipline, rational and pratical thinking. Some people might spend the entire first half of the money at once or on unnecessary things with the excuse, "Alah, takpe, 2 minggu lagi duit masuk. Duit tu kita guna bayar bill."

Of course they are other problems too, notwithstanding there are also other advantages.

Whatever it is, we need to have a planned budget every month (which sometimes could be very hard to adhere to)

Mengidam

Currently I'm craving for three things. No, I'm not pregnant eventhough my man breasts look like they are ready for a baby to suckle. The first thing I miss most is churros. The last time I ate churros was in Disneyland, Los Angeles, about 20-21 years ago. I remember buying one at all the churros stands there. It was only USD 1 that time. Don't know how much it costs now.
The other thing that I miss is nachos with jalapeno and melted cheese, yummmy. Yes, I can get it here in Malaysia but it is not the same as the one sold at Great America amusement park in the Bay Area.

Another snack that I miss also is the sourdough bread sold at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. I would make a point to take ride on the San Francisco Cable Car to go to Fisherman's Wharf to hang around almost every weekend when I was staying there. I remember on one trip I was almost squeezed to the side when a fat woman sat beside me. Yup, a majority of Americans are FAT. But before taking the cable car I would stop at the pizza place which sold pizza by the slices at USD 1 a slice, yum, yum. Sigh, I miss those times
